The initiative to found a new Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research (LBI-CR) was started in 2004 and successfully accomplished in September 2005. Three scientists from the Institute of molecular Pathology (IMP), two scientists from the Medical University Vienna and a scientist from the Biocenter Basel formed a team in order to break new ground in cancer research.
